Call for EU Green Week partner event now open! You can now register your events

The EU Green Week is an annual event focused on debating and discussing European environmental policies, it also attracting policymakers, leading environmentalists and stakeholders from all over Europe and the world. This year, the conference will take place from 1 to 5 June 2020, with a special edition on ‘Nature and Biodiversity’.  Organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, LGI is glad to be part of the organisation of this year’s edition as the designated EU Green Week Partner Events Secrétariat.

An EU Green Week Partner Event is an event that will take place in the month around the actual Green Week, so from 4 May until 14 June 2020, and where the topic of the event is related to the EU Green Week 2020 theme. Partner Events can be organised as new initiatives or as part of already planned events. All kinds of events are welcome, from workshops and public discussions to exhibitions to awareness-raising events for families and so on. Activities can take place at all levels (local, regional, national or European level). The aim of partner events is to demonstrate the high level of public interest on the issue and its support for taking a strong political action to solve the global biodiversity crisis. In that respect, partner events can cover all different angles, for instance:

  • Raising the awareness on the theme (including IPBES loss drivers, explaining links with individual consumption);
  • Exchanging on pitfalls & success stories in protecting biodiversity and nature, showcasing good examples, promoting results & solutions available from different projects or even demonstrating how biodiversity can be managed well in different sectors – e.g. agriculture, forestry, nature-based solutions, research programme results, sustainable tourism, urban policies, etc.…
  • Discussing the role of the EU and its policies, e.g. contributing to the ongoing evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy, its implementation successes and gaps;
  • Generating input on possible future EU actions, such as on the possible post-2020 biodiversity framework, suggestions for the next generation of EU youth or research programmes, responses in public consultations, etc.

If you are planning or interested in organising events between 4 May and June 14 2020, it is possible to register them as an EU Green Week partner event. Applications must be submitted before the deadline, 13 March 2020.

To be considered, events can be related to nature and biodiversity. This does not mean that the event needs to focus exclusively on nature and biodiversity. It can show links and connections with other areas, such as climate change, agriculture, circular economy, urban environment, water, air and so forth. It could even focus on a need for better governance, implementation of existing legislation, training and education or on how citizens could be better involved.

NOTE: If your event takes places during the actual EU Green Week, 1 to 5 June, then it may be selected and given more visibility by being more prominently highlighted on the EU Green Week website and in social media.
